“When I sit down to paint..

it is a practice in loving and trusting myself, and it reminds me that in the end the universe provides us with everything that we need because it's already inside of us. This series explores that connection further by suggesting that the subject appears to be of the background and not from it.

“I love using markers..

When I make these portraits, I just start making all kinds of crazy lines everywhere that vaguely resemble the human. Then It becomes more and more refined. Thats generally how I like to work.”

My friend Lenny asked me to do a mural on the back of his building. He mentioned that it had been in his family for years and thought it would be nice to commemorate that somehow. I’ve known Lenny for years and seen him be a supportive friend and neighbor, always involved in his community and trying to help others. This mural is about lifting eachother up and is inspired by his giving spirit.
